South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society Receives Grant from Fulcher Foundation
BRIDGEWATER, N.S. –  The South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society is thrilled to be the recipient of a $390,000 grant from the Fulcher Foundation. This grant will support the recruitment and hiring of an Executive Director for the SSHPCS, allowing the SSHPCS to expand their existing work.
“We are extremely grateful to the Fulcher Foundation for their faith and support,” said Trudy Johnson, Board Chair for SSHPCS. “This grant comes at a crucial time in the growth of our organization. Our programs and services have steadily expanded since our inception and the level of support and commitment from our community and volunteers continues to grow.”
Clare LeBlanc, Executive Director for the Fulcher Foundation said their Board was impressed with the SSHPCS’s remarkable growth and leadership since its founding in 2019. “The Fulcher Foundation is proud to partner with SSHPCS at this pivotal stage in its development,” said LeBlanc. Â
“We view this investment as a catalytic step toward the long-term delivery of accessible, community-based end-of-life care.” Johnson said the SSHPCS’s main goal has always been dedicated beds in a hospital or hospice setting to serve the communities of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. “As organizations grow, so do their needs. Hiring an Executive Director is the next step in moving toward meeting the Society’s goals.”
“Palliative and hospice care are an essential component of an equitable heath care system,” said Johnson. “Health care workers in our community provide excellent palliative care and we would like to work with our health care partners to enhance that level of care by creating an environment for this care to take place. Our goal is to ensure patients receive palliative and hospice care in designated beds where they and their families can have the privacy and dignity deserved during end-of-life care.”
