We appreciate your interest in supporting the South Shore Hospice & Palliative Care Society through a donation of publicly traded securities. Our broker can facilitate donations of publicly listed shares, bonds, or mutual fund units.
Donating publicly traded securities can provide excellent tax benefits for charitable giving in Canada. The federal government eliminated the capital gains tax on donations of publicly listed securities to registered charities on May 2, 2006. This means that you will not be subject to income tax on any capital gains resulting from your donation to South Shore Hospice & Palliative Care Society. In contrast, if you were to sell the securities and donate the cash instead, 50% of the capital gain would be taxable.
Donating securities is a straightforward process. Please fill out the form below with your broker.
We strongly advise that you seek advice from your financial advisor(s) before making any type of donation. This will ensure that you receive professional advice that is tailored to your specific financial and tax circumstances.

Donating a life insurance policy involves transferring ownership of the policy to a charitable organization. Instead of designating a family member or beneficiary, the policyholder can choose to name a charity as the recipient, or partial recipient, of their death benefit. This act allows individuals to make a substantial charitable contribution without affecting their current financial situation.
It is essential to consult with financial and legal professionals to ensure proper execution of the donation and to understand the specific terms of the policy and applicable tax regulations. Ask your policy administrator for more information about making a gift of insurance.
All donations of $20 or more will receive a charitable tax receipt.
